Matt Williment

Matt joined Procurement Heads’ Financial & Professional Services team in 2022 and is a Recruitment Consultant.

Why did you choose procurement recruitment as a career?

After leaving university I wanted to find a role that best fit my skills.

Having spent a year working in sales, I realised that I wanted a new challenge.

This led to me researching a career in recruitment to use my communication skills to help build and grow relationships.

What sort of procurement roles do you recruit and where?

The roles I recruit sit within the Financial & Professional Services practice at Procurement Heads, with a focus on management consultancies.

What qualities do you believe are integral to being a successful procurement recruiter?

I believe the three main qualities to be a successful procurement recruiter are communication, empathy, and confidence, as these are all qualities required to help build relationships, which is a crucial ability to have in this career.

What do Procurement Heads’ values mean to you?

Ensuring that I am always doing the right thing is something that is very important to me as it means I am doing my job correctly.

And our purpose is to deliver recruitment as a professional service, what does that mean to you?

It means doing more than what the average recruiter would do and focusing on building a relationship with both the client and the candidates.

How has procurement changed during your time recruiting into the sector?

One thing that has become apparent to me is how it needs to change to adapt to the external factors it faces. i.e., Brexit and the financial crisis.

What inspires you?

New challenges inspire me.

This is because it provides me with something to focus my energy on to achieve or beat targets set.

What 3 words would you use to describe your professional self?

Motivated, reliable, versatile.

What do you enjoy most about procurement recruitment?

The element of procurement recruitment that I enjoy the most is that no day is the same and with each new day comes a new challenge to overcome.

Whether this be in the form of a new role or negotiating with candidates or clients.

What are some of the biggest highlights since you joined Procurement Heads?

Since joining the company in March 2022 my biggest highlights to date are when I made my first placement and team trip to the wave in Bristol.

As well as these two highlights another of mine is my first client meeting with one of our retained clients, which gave me a sense of achievement that the work I had been doing was being noticed and rewarded.
