Why did you choose procurement recruitment as a career?
Much like many consultants, recruitment is something that I fell into, during my undergraduate degree at Aston University I enrolled on a four-year course which involved a year in industry, I found a role in recruitment and since then I haven’t looked back!
Graduating from University in 2021 during a global pandemic, the job market for graduates was challenging but I knew that I wanted to go back into recruitment and have decided to make the move into procurement recruitment. In the last few years, I have grown and developed a great deal leading me to make the move to Procurement Heads which has given me the opportunity to take the next step in my career and support logistics and transport procurement professional with their recruitment requirements.
What sort of procurement roles do you recruit and where?
My team and I work within the industrial space, I personally focus on recruiting for logistics and transport division. You will find me working on a range of vacancies all the way from Buyers to Directors and Managerial positions across the UK. With a focus on Interim Management.
What qualities do you think are integral to being a successful procurement recruiter?
Fundamentally everything comes down to communication, transparency and knowledge. Of course, being able to work collaboratively and being people oriented is always important. Being inquisitive, honest and having the ability to build meaningful relationships will always set you up for success.
What do Procurement Heads’ values mean to you?
Values are something which are core to any business and one of the reasons I am so excited to work at Procurement Heads is that these values are very closely aligned to my own. With a focus on going above and beyond expectations, being able to build meaningful and trusting relationships and always striving to for best in practice are important values which set us up for success.
And our purpose is to deliver recruitment as a professional service; what does that mean to you?
Finding a recruitment consultancy who are able to deliver as a professional service is not as easy to as you may first think, but at Procurement Heads we endeavour to always deliver the highest service. Recruitment often falls into being transactional which often, does not produce the desired outcome. Being able to be a trusted advisor and offering the end-to-end service that doesn’t just finish with a successful placement, we aim to be able to provide you with insight and sharing knowledge to be a valued partner, knowing you can trust us with giving the advice and support whenever you may require it.
How has procurement changed during your time recruiting into the sector?
Despite only being in the industry for four years I have seen some big changes over the relatively short period of time! Seeing the positive changes in diversity and inclusion as well as focusing on sustainability and educated consumerism. The ability to change and adapt quickly to political, social and economic events has been integral to any successful recruitment process.
What inspires you?
I have always loved a challenge, working in recruitment has only amplified this, being able to work-though, breakdown and fully understand various challenges and barriers and then building a plan to overcomes this, to then ultimately succeed is something I find very rewarding and inspiring. From a young age I have always put everything into whatever I do which has served me well in my recruitment career and my personal life too.
What three words would you use to describe your professional self?
Dedicated, Driven and Honest.
What do you enjoy most about procurement recruitment?
I have found that procurement professionals and recruiters are often more similar than you may first think, for example, understanding the importance to building lasting and building relationships. This mutual understanding has made the communication to both clients and candidates more streamlined and rewarding.
