Category Manager (Indirect)

A well-established professional services firm is seeking to hire a Category Manager (Indirect) into its procurement team.

As part of a small team, the Category Manager will report directly to the Head of Procurement and be responsible for the development and execution of category strategies across a range of areas including HR, marketing, FM and travel.

While previous experience with these categories is not mandatory, candidates must possess previous experience in category management.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior stakeholders, forging strong relationships and demonstrating the value of procurement to the organisation.

This is a rare opportunity to join a small but dynamic team in its early stages of maturity, with the potential to drive and shape the procurement strategy in the years to come.

The role offers a hybrid working model, with the candidate working from home for most of the week and spending two days at the modern London offices.

Responsibilities of the Category Manager (Indirect) role:

  • Category Management: Cultivate and nurture relationships with stakeholders, grasp organisational needs, devise procurement plans, evaluate the supply landscape, and adjust strategies based on performance metrics.
  • Sourcing Expertise: Identify suitable supply chains, spearhead procurement initiatives, prepare tender documents, foster connections with key figures, and negotiate and formulate pivotal contractual terms.
  • Supplier Oversight: Stay informed about suppliers, spearhead strategic partnerships, monitor and assess supplier performance, pinpoint areas for enhancement, and conduct relevant audits.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop a strategic roadmap, serve as a focal point of expertise, forge robust ties with stakeholders, communicate and report to the broader organization, enhance the profile of procurement, offer support and training, and collaborate with other support units.

  
Skills and Experience sought for the Category Manager (Indirect) role:

  • At least three years of experience in procurement and supply management
  • Demonstrated relevant expertise spanning various indirect procurement categories
  • Preference for CIPS accreditation or indication of progress toward achieving it
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, coupled with effective interpersonal skills
  • Personable demeanour conducive to building solid relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Capacity to showcase value, insight, and innovation in development
  • Proficiency in employing effective supplier management techniques
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a wide array of essential procurement skills, including leadership, negotiation, influence, project and change management, and governance.
