Jess Hirst

Jess is a Recruitment Associate in the Financial & Professional Services practice and joined Procurement Heads in 2023.

Why did you choose procurement recruitment as a career?

I’ve always really enjoyed people and I wanted a career where I could interact and network with as many people as possible.

I love hearing people’s success stories and in this role, I can do that every day.

What sort of procurement roles do you recruit and where?

I’m part of the Financial & Professional Services team and we have a UK-wide outreach.

However, lots of our roles are based in London.

What qualities do you believe are integral to being a successful procurement recruiter?

Having the ability to listen is very important.

Taking in and understanding what candidates and clients want and need, as well as being able to read between the lines to find out what’s most important to them.

What do Procurement Heads’ values mean to you?

We like to go above and beyond for our clients, candidates and for each other so that ultimately everyone gets what they want and no one’s time is wasted.

To do this we aim to build strong relationships with everyone that we interact with – this helps us better remember the wants and needs of everyone so that when it comes to finding the right match, we know who to turn to straight away.

And our purpose is to deliver recruitment as a professional service, what does that mean to you?

Offering more than just a CV sourcing service – we provide insight and advice to candidates and clients alike.

What inspires you?

I get inspired by success stories.

Hearing people work their way up to the top is really inspiring to me.

I’m also super competitive so that makes me want to do well for my candidates and clients too.

What 3 words would you use to describe your professional self?

Inquisitive. Competitive. Approachable.

What do you enjoy most about procurement recruitment?

I love being able to speak with business-minded people every day that can completely transform organisations through procurement.

Whether that be driving sustainable change, making huge cost savings, or pushing for technological innovation, everyone has a very exciting story to tell.

What are some of the biggest highlights since you joined Procurement Heads?

Being able to share positive news about applications is a huge highlight.

It’s great to hear how much the work that we do could really change someone’s life.

Our MacMillan 5-a-side football event was a standout for me.

It made such a difference being able to meet our candidates and clients outside of the office space and it was such a fun event.

I can’t wait to do it again.
