Supplier Relationship Manager | FTSE Transformation | Sussex & agile working

A Procurement team embarking on an exciting journey of transformation is seeking an experienced Supplier Relationship Manager to manage key commercial relationships with key suppliers, throughout the complete lifecycle of the agreement.

With a newly created vision paper and an ambition to drive change, this Procurement team would welcome an individual who is passionate and proactive.

As Supplier Relationship Manager you will:

Support the development of best practise methodology for SRM through the application of rigorous and effective contract management policy and process. 

Provide thought leadership and best practice to the business with regard to SRM activity, tools, processes and best practice

Your key responsibilities will include:

Supplier relationship management

  • Manage allocated key supplier contracts, ensuring all business requirements are suitably supported by external vendors through proactive account development and management
  • Ensure consistent support and compliance with all relevant policies and procedures
  • Identify opportunities to drive value and improve the performance of the existing and potential supply base
  • To manage the governance of key supplier relationships ensuring that commercial obligations are adhered to
  • Maintain and build business relationships with suppliers in order to ensure that delivery schedules are achieved and that favourable terms can be agreed with the supplier to suit business needs

Contract governance and best practice

  • Implement a formal supplier management framework for all applicable suppliers including driving the delivery of supplier Account Development Plans in order to identify opportunities to improve the level of service or reduce cost
  • Ensure compliance with the roles and responsibilities of the UK Procurement Environmental Management System
  • Continually look to drive improvement via improved processes and tooling

Commercial leadership

  • Manage and lead the commercial relationship with relevant suppliers
  • Control the commercial change process for key performance indicators/SLAs to ensure that the indicators in use are providing internal stakeholders with the visibility needed of the operation
  • Ensure that any deviations from the performance or the commercial agreement are clearly identified and reported to the appropriate forum

Commercial support

  • Monitor and analyse supplier performance, ensure and agree and implement improvement plans with suppliers, monitor supplier engagement.
  • Engage in lower value/risk Procurement and sourcing activity as required

Financial management

  • Track expenditure for applicable suppliers

To be successful in Supplier Relationship Manager role, you will come with existing experience of the following:

  • Understanding contract law sufficiently to be able to identify risks, gaps and opportunities
  • Lead and run in scope RFI/RFPs and commercial/contractual negotiations
  • Demonstrable knowledge of techniques to deliver continuous cost savings and add value to business units
  • A knowledge of tools and techniques to evaluate the balance of power between the business and its suppliers, the impact of this balance/imbalance and how to use it or change it to the business’s advantage
  • Comprehensive experience of managing key supplier relationships for at least 2 years. Operational business management
  • Some Procurement experience, ideally in possession of or working towards the CIPS qualification
  • An understanding of commercial terms and unenforceable provisions (Unfair Contract Terms etc)
  • The ability to prepare business cases, contracts and senior management briefings and summaries
  • The ability to give clear and comprehensive instructions and also to interpret and deliver against instructions received
  • Contribute to accurate budget management
  • Project management skills
  • Self-starter/independent work ability
