Senior Category Manager – Engineering

Procurement Heads are currently partnering with a reputable employer on the South Coast, who are looking to appoint a Senior Category Manager into their Procurement and Supply Chain department with responsibility for overseeing the day to day operations of the Engineering category.

With a wide Engineering remit across Electrical, Mechanical and Composites procurements, this is not only a fantastic leadership role, but will also have core focus on assisting with a major ERP implementation; adding a new dimension to the role.

The ERP programme is looking to achieve a step change in systems capability adding new functionality within Requestions, Catalogues, Punch-Out Catalogues, Contract Management and E-Procurement. Are you ready to take on a new challenge in your career, and play a key part in the transformation?

As the Senior Category Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and execution of category and sub-category sourcing strategies, reducing risk, optimising cost and enhance quality and service standards
  • Providing leadership and direction to the team (Category Managers)
  • Holding suppliers accountable for meeting targets, maximising availability through effective tendering and negotiation
  • Manage a spend profile of up to £10 million, ensuring goods and services are delivered on time, efficiently, and safely
  • Working with the relevant Buyers to enable the maximum use of the ERP System to automate ordering and the use of e-catalogue 
  • Interpreting data trends including complex markets and system data as well as conflicting organisational requirements, to influence and
    manage stakeholders through the effective presentation of data and key metrics.

Suitable candidate:

  • Procurement: management of resources and delivery, end-to-end procurement experience is essential. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience of previously working within the Engineering category. This will ensure a smooth transition into a commercially driven and fast-paced working environment.
  • Management: Experience of managing teams within a procurement/supply chain capacity is essential as this role will require supervision and leadership of 3x reports.
  • Soft Skills: Strong experience of influencing, negotiation and business partnering is essential.
  • Qualifications: CIPS qualification is desired.
