Programme Advisory Consultant

Procurement Heads' Financial & Professional Services team is recruiting Procurement Consultants for a leading management consultancy.

One of the UK’s leading management consultancies that serve clients within the construction, infrastructure, renewables, and defence sectors is looking to appoint a Procurement Consultant to join its strategic programme advisory division.

The Programme Advisory Consultant role will report to one of the senior members of the programme advisory division and will be responsible for developing, implementing and optimising commercial strategies on some of the largest major projects and programmes in the country.

The role offers hybrid working with 2-3 days a week in its London or Bristol offices and on client sites.

Within this team, you’ll have the opportunity to work with an outstanding group of specialist consultants, and advise major clients on large-scale/flagship projects whilst also being offered a clear tailored progression plan to grow along with the business.

As Procurement Consultant your key responsibilities will be:

  • Contributing to the assessment of a business challenge, the development of an ‘optimal’ commercial solution and implementation of that solution, including the ability to think strategically and translate strategy into delivery
  • Supporting development, implementation and optimisation of commercial strategies, functional set-up, programme optimisation and programme commercial recovery
  • Understanding and incorporating experience and lessons learned from other major projects and programmes, being able to link effectively to other departments
  • Understanding of industry context and initiatives, for example, the Construction Playbook, Project 13 and IPA Routemap
  • Working within diverse and multi-disciplinary teams at client sites, including the development of strong relationships with clients
  • Deploying established processes, tools, and systems, tailoring these to suit specific circumstances and contributing to their continuous improvement and development
  • Supporting the successful adoption and realisation of successful business outcomes
  • Supporting key activities within the team including internal development of transformation products and approaches
  • Preparing, defining, and lead on bid proposals, and working closely alongside senior management and the wider team.
  • Identifying, contributing to and progressing business generation opportunities where appropriate  

Skills and experience:

  • Strong experience in one or more of the following: major project/programme commercial strategy, packaging strategy, procurement and supply chain strategy, incentivisation, commercial performance management, efficiency strategies, contracts, major project/programme commercial delivery
  • Post-graduate with industry experience and RICS membership (or equivalent commercial-orientated qualification)
  • Excellent communication skills including active listening, presentation, and written communication
  • Confident in dealing with clients, with a proactive approach and an enquiring mindset
  • Able to work and thrive in multi-stakeholder environments
  • Ability to understand and operate within large-scale, complex environments and programmes
  • Experience in working with multiple forms of construction contracts would be advantageous
  • Experience in some or all of the following sectors: infrastructure major projects/programmes, defence, government services, highways, natural resources, railways, real estate, utilities, and airports
