Procurement Lead – Supply Chain | FTSE 100 Manufacturing Business | Portsmouth

As a result of some incredible growth in the procurement team, this prestigious defence company, based in Southern Hampshire is seeking 2 Procurement Leads to sit within the Supply Chain team. Working alongside experienced people within the business, you will be supporting the whole procurement team in successfully sourcing the tools needed to build some of the largest ships in the country.

With a whole host of exciting projects to come, this FTSE 100 is looking for hands-on and diligent Procurement Leads to collaborate in tendering processes, supplier selection, meeting strict deadlines and negotiating contracts. As well as the plethora of knowledge that you will learn, this opportunity offers a wealth of development starting with supplier relationship management as the performance of 20 suppliers is a current focus point.

A hands-on and collaborative role, you’ll possess a can-do attitude, an exposure to the manufacturing sector or an engineering/manufacturing related degree.

For the role of Procurement Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  • Accuracy of tasks, services and information provided to team and customers
  • Maintaining the quality of tasks/services to ensure the effectiveness of the team
  • Developing and applying procurement processes within projects or business functions to source goods and services, either for routine purchases or for lower value/risk non-standard items or services
  • Working with other functional representatives and/or customers and suppliers to meet operational needs of line management and the business, and to ensure
  • Operating warehousing processes to meet agreed service levels, as well as understanding the key issues in relation to transport management.


  • You will work within defined processes, procedures and guidelines
  • You will need to use a common-sense approach, analyse information associated with the problem and to pick an appropriate solution from the available options
  • You will manage their own workload and occasionally the work of others in a support role
  • It is required that you will have a solid professional knowledge and understanding of Procurement, Logistics and Planning principles and practices, including an understanding of the impact and implications of decisions made to stakeholders and suppliers
  • You will understand the roles and responsibilities within the wider Supply Chain team as this will help the individual carry out their role more effectively
