IT Category Manager (Insurance)

A B Corp certified health insurance business is looking for an IT Category Manager to join their newly established procurement team.

This B Corp-certified business provides health plans for dental treatments, visits to the optician, complementary therapies (e.g. physio) and much more by providing financial support to those who really need it.

As IT Category Manager, you’ll be partnering with the Technology department and be responsible for the development, execution and ongoing evolution of the IT Category Strategy, covering an annualised spend of around £10m.
  
Joining a small team, as well as being involved at a strategy level, this organisation is looking for someone who will also drive the day-to-day procurement activities for the areas you’re partnered with.
  
Whilst they are an established business, this is a great opportunity to take full responsibility for building a category strategy from the ground up.

The working pattern will be 1 day a week spent in their Hampshire office with the rest spent working at home. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, execution and evolution of the 12-36 month Category Strategy, ensuring its direct connection to the associated departmental strategies
  • Responsible for leading all aspects of procurement activity through the execution of the Category Strategy, including leading all associated RFx and commercial negotiation and supporting the Legal team with contractual negotiation
  • Act as first point of contact for all procurement related activities, providing expert guidance and advice on all associated activities and processes, including providing training when required regarding procurement practices, policy and process
  • Responsible for the delivery of individual KPIs and associated savings targets, including using initiative to identify opportunities to create innovative commercial models
  • Responsible for ensuring the compliant onboarding and management of associated suppliers.
  • Taking an active role in the supplier review process, identifying opportunity for incremental business value and supporting any required remedial action where suppliers are failing to meet their contractual / expected service levels
  • Responsible for the development and management of senior internal and external stakeholder relationships, including providing commercial insight, guidance and advice – acting as a trusted partner and critical friend to departmental and functional leaders

Key Skills and Experience

  • A strong background in procurement relating to a Technology/IT Category and experience in both building and implementing specific procurement strategies and local plans for your areas
  • A clear commercial focus and a proactive approach to procurement
  • Experience in leading tenders and negotiations with established supply partners
  • CIPS qualification would also be desirable
