Global IT Procurement Manager

A global professional services company is recruiting a Global IT Procurement Manager to head up its IT spend internationally.

Working within a procurement function of circa 30 people, you’ll lead and set the IT procurement strategy across the whole gamut of technology procurement with a spend profile of circa £150m, while also managing a small team and managing senior IT stakeholders across the enterprise. 

Having completed a number of significant RFPs, the objective for next year is all about driving change programmes for senior stakeholders and necessitates an individual with in-depth IT category expertise, prior experience in a similar-sized business and the gravitas to influence at the highest level.

The business has an open, friendly and approachable culture and would see you in its London, Hampshire or Birmingham offices (depending on where you live) 1-2 times per week with the ability to operate remotely for the rest of the working week if required.  

As Global IT Procurement Manager, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Global category management of the IT category from strategy creation through to the delivery of business outcomes and performance, including in-year and annualised savings targets as agreed through the planning process and aligned with the targets
  • Creating and continually reviewing comprehensive and forward-looking global category strategies and plans to deliver results and year-on-year continuous improvement in cost, service, innovation and risk for the IT category – applying truly global and strategic thinking whilst ensuring that local business and supply market requirements are understood and supported
  • Educating and influencing key stakeholders to support category strategy development, endorse recommended category strategies, support implementation and agree on how benefits will be captured
  • Leveraging deep category and market expertise of self and the business’ key stakeholders to support it in optimising value, managing demand and mitigating risk from the third-party supply base for the IT category
  • Translating global category strategies to a clear and prioritised pipeline of sourcing projects for execution
  • Whilst not responsible for the execution of sourcing projects, retaining accountability by providing input, governance and oversight to the execution of sourcing projects within the IT category including the approval of gates in the sourcing process
  • Tracking strategy implementation, project delivery, spend, performance and compliance within the IT category, refining strategy and plans or initiating and implementing improvement or corrective actions as required
  • Acting as a procurement business partner to regional IT stakeholders to ensure alignment and delivery of business priorities
  • Providing category insight, expertise and best practices to support bids to create competitive supply chain architecture that meets bid requirements, leverages the existing supply base or sources, and new suppliers, as required, and mitigates risk to support profitable growth
  • Building relationships with key suppliers at a senior level and leading supplier management processes within the IT category to ensure that performance and value are delivered whilst managing the risks

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years recent, deep IT procurement experience
  • Graduate calibre with a Bachelor’s degree
  • Post-graduate qualification (e.g. MSc/MBA) or a professional qualification such as MCIPS is desirable but not essential
  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand complex business needs and drivers and identify ways for procurement to address
  • Previous experience working in a complex changing environment with demanding business objectives in a competitive market sector
  • Demonstrates a consistent track record of delivery within large and complex procurement organisations
  • Will have a track record of category management, effecting change and continuous improvement through the creation and implementation of innovative category strategies
  • Expert category and market knowledge of the assigned categories
  • A global and strategic mindset while being flexible to local differences and creative to encourage and seek innovative approaches
  • Demonstrating a track record of developing and maintaining strong senior stakeholder relationships up to MD and Board level
  • Possessing excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at multiple levels especially Senior and Board level
  • Strong planning, organising, analytical and fact-based decision-making skills
