Deputy Head of Supply

Procurement Heads' Public Sector team is excited to be working exclusively with an NHS Trust to fill the newly created role of Deputy Head of Supply.

Three NHS Trusts have combined their procurement and supply chain management teams into one function that will support a multi-region Integrated Care System (ICS).

The procurement team is relatively new but has completed the hard yards and built a strong stakeholder engagement internally, so this new candidate can hit the ground running.

First and foremost the role is the management of three Senior Procurement Managers who will report directly to you. Plus, implementing and controlling work plans and ongoing projects.

The client is willing to consider people without a clinical procurement background, however, we’re looking for those with a strong directs background if they are good people managers, can evidence adaptability, quick to pick things up and, importantly, familiar with public sector regulations. 

Procurement Heads Public Sector team has been fortunate enough to recently recruit their other Deputy Head of Supply who leans more towards the non-clinical procurement function, however, this role is to support the Head of Supply in a more clinical procurement environment.

Clinical Procurement Specialists are based at each of the sites to assist with medical nuances and jargon for those with little or no clinical procurement background.

About you:

You will be expected to be on-site 2-3 days per week, however, can choose any of the three sites (Bath, Swindon or Salisbury).

You should be able to demonstrate sound leadership skills to develop and lead your procurement team. Preferably, have an understanding of clinical procurement in a healthcare environment.

Be able to operationally manage the sourcing programme for the three trusts’ constituent organisations, contributing significantly to delivery, including sustainable cost reductions, contract compliance, catalogue management and contract management.

Direct reports to you: Three Senior Procurement Managers

  • First stage interview: Teams with Head of Sourcing and Associate Director of Procurement and Commercial Services at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
  • Second stage interview: In-person, only dependent on the number of candidates applying
