In the first of our new and updated CPO Spotlight series, we spoke with Head of Procurement at WSP, Navid Amin, about the evolving responsibility of Social Value in Procurement.
ESG & Social Value is top of the agenda, give us an example of how this is being seen through at WSP…
“So within WSP, it’s all about imbuing the principle of social value internally – and not just in Procurement within the organisation.
Four weeks ago, we held a ‘hackathon’ in our Chancery Lane offices in London. We invited 13 or 14 people from various business units who spent a day of their valuable time talking to 4 black-owned charities from around the London area.
These charities focused on mental health and homelessness, and it was really just about giving back to the community. The people in the room had about 10-15 years worth of commercial experience.
One of the charities was seeking advice with their bookkeeping, so we invited someone from Audit. It was just about giving guidance. Our Bid Team had good representation there as people wanted to know how to create RFP documents and presentations.
It was a great success, and we’re fortunate as an organisation because we deliver projects that impact communities.”
