Looking ahead to 2018…

As we begin a brand new year, Senior Manager Martin Smith looks forward to what 2018 has in store.


2018….. I can’t quite believe that I’m entering my 9th year in the world of Procurement recruitment – but there’s no doubt the most exciting year is to come! Although the global landscape of Procurement continues to evolve, the good news is that there is still an increasing appetite for organisations to invest in Procurement talent. Looking forward to 2018, the major change in landscape is the use of technology and the need for Procurement Professionals to adapt to the modern world. Specifically, with advanced e-sourcing platforms and robotics that will greatly improve the efficiency of Procurement as we know it. There is still a requirement for the businesses we partner with to upskill their Procurement teams in this digital age, while retaining the right soft skills to balance driving the right cost vs value for the business and departments goals.


Encouraging early indications for the wider business market include a promising start to FTSE 100 share prices and improvements in the US and Asia markets – but some optimism remains across Europe. Despite a weaker pound due to Brexit uncertainty, the UK trading prices have had the chance to flourish, with raw materials and goods now better aligned to the global market, meaning we can expect an increase in trade – particularly in the manufacturing and technology markets. Growth equals opportunity, as naturally there will be more spend for Procurement departments to manage and thus the need for more headcount.


Busy times lay ahead for all of us at Procurement Heads as we enter our 6th year. Our team of talented consultants will continue to expand as our client base grows across our geographies, and we diversify our service offering into the public sector and our recently launched interim space. To accommodate this growth, we are in the process of upgrading to a very smart new office in the centre of Winchester!



Our exciting events programme is filling up fast with our annual football tournament confirmed for Friday 20th April, quarterly leadership forums and a number of charity events to look forward to. This year, we’ll be attending various recruiter awards as we continue to get shortlisted for the great work we are doing across the UK.


It is critical that we continue to differentiate our organisation from other recruitment businesses and this starts at home – our valued network we work with daily and their experience of Procurement Heads. Ultimately, a business is only as good as its people, and we believe this isn’t just the Consultants we have working for our organisation but the candidates and clients we work with. These are our brand ambassadors. We’ll support them throughout their career journey, whether they are a Buyer looking for progression, an interim looking for a new contract, or a Head of Procurement looking to build their team. We strive to be the recruiter of choice for everyone. Certainly, with market conditions and our own busy agenda for 2018 it is an exciting time to be in the Procurement Industry and we wish all our contacts a very happy and prosperous New Year.
